I am a huge You Am I fan and since moving to Australia I have seen You Am I live 5 times and Tim solo 5 times. So I was surprised that I had seen neither live in 2011. With this in mind there was only one course of action to see Tim on New Year’s Day.
I arrived to see the second half of Achoo! Bless You’s set and enjoyed what I heard. Achoo! Bless You are a duo who play sweet acoustic pop songs with cool melodies and coy lyrics. They reminded me of a more Indie less Retro version of The Brunettes. A band to definitely keep an eye out for.
Tim Rogers appeared on stage to a fairly empty Annandale and allot of this had to do with the early start of 8.30pm. The show began with Tim reading a poem he had just written in response to the ongoing financial troubles the Annandale Hotel are facing. The set was a mix of solo and YAI material performed either solo or with Tim’s best friend Shane Mcnamara accompanying him. Tim was in a really good mood and having a laugh with Shane and the audience throughout which fitted the Sunday evening feel. Please Don't Ask Me To Smile, If We Can't Get It Together & Dinosaurs were highlights of this laid back set. Heavy Heart was given a chugging art rock treatment that didn’t really work for me. The end of the set featured a few choice covers versions including a fantastic version of Bob Dylan’s Boots Of Spanish Leather. I never get tired of seeing Tim in concert because he always give’s his all to his shows and adds something new. All class.
